Eat these 9 best foods for healthy skin

People have this common belief that using a mishmash of skin products will automatically give them radiant-looking skin, and so when the skin remains as dull and problematic as they were before being treated with all sorts of creams and lotions, these same people end up disappointed.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with using skin products, but proper skin care goes beyond that. Whatever is put on the skin is as equally important as what is taken in. In other words, skin products can’t, even in the age of advanced science, beautify the skin all on their own; taking care of skin health primarily starts with eating the right foods for healthy skin.

However, this elementary principle is all too often ignored, and the result is people stashing skin care items with little thought about what comes in their refrigerators. A good diet benefits the skin in more ways than one; and there’s no substitute for it.

If you want to maintain your beauty it is essential to eat foods that will help you on your way. Choose the best foods for healthy skin. Trust me your skin will thank you for it..

If you’re one of those who tend to overlook your diet, it’s time to rethink. Good thing is, there’s always a chance to make a good start. And you can do this by knowing what foods are exactly beneficial to the skin. Here’s a quick rundown:

1. Omega-3 rich fish

This includes salmon, mackerel, tuna, and other oily fish. Other than benefiting the heart, omega-3 fatty acid is good for the skin. Omega-3 strengthens cell membranes, and consequently makes the cells hydrated and replenished.

This results in appropriate level of moisture. When there is enough moisture, the skin remains smooth and supple, has improved elasticity, and has healthy pores.

2. Carrots

Carrots are a potent source of beta-carotene and vitamin C. Once absorbed by the body, beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A that helps in making skin cells and keeping them replenished and healthy.

If there is not enough vitamin A, the skin is dry and flaky. Vitamin C, on the other hand, has potent antioxidant properties and helps in collagen formation. Sufficient amount of vitamin C in the body keeps the skin young-looking and fresh.

3. Sweet potatoes

Also an excellent source of vitamin C and beta-carotene, sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin E, another good antioxidant and anti-aging. Vitamin E works to regenerate vitamin C, therefore allowing it to work in its maximum potential.

4. Green Tea

Famous for its many benefits, green tea has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and is rich in calcium, zinc, magnesium, riboflavin, and vitamins C, D, and K.

Green tea is also believed to protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s UV rays, and so helps prevent cancer. But not only is green tea good for the skin, it is also good for the entire body.

5. Whole Grains

Whole grains are excellent source of B group vitamins. These are essential to the skin because they aid in replacing dead skin cells and developing new ones. They also naturally protect the skin from infections.

Now that you know some of the foods for skin care, it is only necessary to incorporate them in your daily diet. Remember that deficiency in some of the vitamins and minerals can lead to premature skin aging, dryness, and other skin problems such as eczema.

To ensure radiant skin, you can eat an apple every day. You can also apply the juice of an apple on the face and wash with water after 10 minutes. Apart from this apples have health benefits.

beet for healthy skin

7. Beetroot

A greater amount of antioxidants you have in your diet, the greater your skin will be. And beets guarantee you just that. Beetroot is a rich source of anthocyanins which is a potent antioxidant which prevents the appearance of wrinkles. If you eat beets, your skin will look pink and shiny.

Boil your beetroot and cut into slices, then consume. Beets can be difficult to digest if eaten raw.

8. Lemon

Your skin tends to be dull when you have scars, acne and blackheads. But the lemons can keep these problems at bay. This fruit is high in vitamin C which is needed for collagen synthesis.

Squeeze a lemon in a glass of warm water and take it first thing in the morning. You can add a tablespoon of honey too if you want. Or, just add a dash of lemon juice into the salad.

food for healthy skin

Typically, spinach must be boiled and then added to salads. Alternatively you can add to your favorite soup. Also, spinach juice is effective in maintaining healthy skin.

To keep your skin at it’s best avoid foods that cause acne and be sure to include the best foods for healthy skin in your diet.

Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then wash it off with tepid water.

Honey face mask for dry skin

Mix well 1 tsp each of honey and egg white, 2 tsp each of curds and rice powder and 4 tsp almond oil.

Apply this on face and wash it off with lukewarm water after 15 minutes. This pack is also excellent for treating ageing skin as it smoothens wrinkles.

The above honey face packs, obviously very simple, are safe and very effective for your skin and won’t harm your skin of any type.

A whitehead is a form of acne that manifests as a small white bump on the skin. They form when hair follicles become blocked with the body’s own excess oil or external impurities such as dirt or bacteria.

Unlike blackheads, the clogged area is not exposed to the air and it does not turn black and the infection forms as a tiny raised white spot

So how to get rid of whiteheads ?

Well, whiteheads usually appear around the forehead, cheeks, eyelids and most commonly around nose and can unfortunately appear with blackheads and other forms of acne.

Whiteheads can be quite unattractive and people suffering from them often become quite self conscious. It is possible to reduce or get rid of whiteheads with the correct cleansing regime and there are many tried and tested remedies which you can try to get rid of whiteheads.

Unlike blackheads it is not the best move to try and remove whiteheads with an extractor. That is because the pore is closed around the spot and forced whitehead removal can damage the skin causing further infection instead of removing whiteheads.

Many people recommend the use of a honey mask. Honey is often used in natural remedies for blackheads as well as whiteheads because it is a natural anti-bacterial.

Honey treatments can help kill the germs and clear the clogged up pores that cause the whiteheads to form. To be really effective in whitehead treatment, a honey mask needs to be used every few days or so.

Another simple technique is the use of the hot and cold compress. This is a traditional and ancient method that is simple to do and very effective.

Firstly it is important to wash your hands and face carefully, after this dab the hot compress on the whiteheads. This reduces the swelling and discomfort and after a little time may get rid of them altogether.

Any system that you use to get rid of whiteheads should be focused on gently opening the blocked pores and allowing your skin to breathe.

It is most important to keep your skin clear and clean and free of pollutants. For this reason it is best to avoid applying creams and ointments. You should also avoid putting make-up on the area.
You might do this to conceal the whiteheads, but you will actually be making them worse. Keeping your skin clean and fresh is by far the best way to prevent and get rid of whiteheads.
